Brian D. Robb is a Wisconsin-based visual artist whose work is rooted in close observation, fond memories, and a deep affection for the landscapes of the Upper Midwest.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Gustavus Adolphus College, where he studied under Bruce McClain, and began his career teaching art in Minnesota. Those formative experiences established a lifelong commitment to making and sharing art.

For years, Robb explored the landscape through photography, often framing compositions with a camera pressed to his forehead. That instinct—to pause, look closely, and discover structure within the natural world—continues to inform his painting practice.

After retiring from a career in the travel industry, Robb turned renewed energy toward acrylic painting. Although his travels have taken him around the world, his work repeatedly returns to the varied terrain, shifting light, and changing seasons of the Upper Midwest. Through color, composition, and atmosphere, he translates familiar places into scenes shaped equally by experience and recollection.

Robb’s paintings invite viewers to slow down and rediscover the quiet beauty of their surroundings. He hopes each image becomes both a destination and a point of recognition—prompting questions such as, “Where is this?” or “Have I been there?”—and awakening the sensory familiarity of a place remembered: the scent of the air, the feel of a season, or the comforting sense that one has been there before.
